World Book Day 2019

What an exciting day we had! This year, we focused on the story 'Giraffes Can't Dance' by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees.

For World Book day, children and staff were invited to dress up as a book or story character of their choice, and what a diverse mix we had! We had a lot of Harry Potters walking around, but if you looked carefully, we also had Moaning Myrtle and a house elf too! Paddington, Tin Tin, Asterix, Winnie the Pooh, as well as Willy Wonka, Where's Wally and the Enormous Crocodile all worked together brilliantly.

We started in the hall, celebrating our costumes, and then Frodo Baggins read the story of 'Giraffes Can't Dance', a story about a giraffe who doesn't think he can dance, and gets laughed at by the other animals when he tries to! But thankfully, he learns that if he puts his mind to it, he can achieve what he didn't think he could!

Then we moved into groups where all classes from Reception to Year 6 worked together! What fun they had! There was alliteration sentences being written, animal masks being made from paper plates, giraffe collages, freeze frame dramas, 'I can...' bunting, poetry, music composition and even some funky animation in the computer suite! Look at the photos below for a flavour of how we celebrated our love of reading and stories on World Book Day!
